Lorenzo de Medici Art School

About
The Lorenzo de Medici Art School (LdM) has campuses in Florence, Rome and Tuscany and offers over 400 art related courses. The Rome school is part of the elegant Umbertine palace on Via XX Settembre, one of the most important streets in the city. The school offers a range of programs for international students such as weekly Italian language courses, one month art summer camps, 12-month Certificate programs and 4-year Bachelor of Arts degree programs. The 4-week summer art courses are open to adult students of all abilities and run June, July and August. Courses include 48 hours of tuition per month (12 hours a week). Art courses on offer include painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, mosaic art, restoration & conservation, photography, video, film and mixed media. Other courses include pastel techniques, watercolour, Florence sketchbook, portraiture in oils, gouache, egg tempera media and mixed media.

Tuition Fee: An average one month art course costs $1,750, a semester $7,950 and a full year $15,550

John Cabot University

About
An American university in the heart of Rome, the John Cabot University (JCU) was established in 1972. JCU is an independent, 4-year liberal arts university offering undergraduate degrees and study abroad programs to English speakers from all over the world. The university has an active Department of Art History and Studio Art. The Studio Art degree includes courses on drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, fresco painting (drawing, painting, colour theory and plaster preparation), landscape painting and photography (nature photography, portraiture, architecture, photojournalism, fashion and beauty and landscape). One month summer courses are also offered for people of all abilities.

Tuition Fee: Two Courses (6/7 Credits): $6190.00, which includes accommodation, health insurance, trips and airport pickup.

About
Established in 1982, this is a school of art restoration which offers 2 weeks restoration and fresco painting summer courses for art lovers from all over the word (no previous experience required). Classes run between June 20th and September 30th and take place in the morning, with guided tours of the city in the afternoon. All artistic tools and equipment will be provided by the school, and students receive a certificate on competition which is recognized both in high schools (as BAC extra credits) and in universities (as ECTS credits). The school can also help students acquire local accommodation.

Types of art restoration courses available are:

St. Peter's Basilica
Stone work restoration. Learn how to remove stuccoes, graffiti and other dirt materials.

The Coliseum
Monument restoration. Learn how to clean, consolidate, stucco fill and protect monuments.

Caravaggio
Restoration of paintings on canvas. An introduction to canvas painting techniques, how to line a canvas, reassemble canvases on another frame and how to remove oxidized paint.

Michelangelo
Fresco and painting restoration. Learn techniques on the restoration of frescos taught by the restorers of the Sistine Chapel (1980-1994).

Pinacoteca Vaticana (Vatican Picture Gallery)
Wood panel painting. Learn how to prepare panels, guazzo gilding and paint with tempera.

Raphael
Mural paintings – how to prepare a secco painting surface and paint mezzo fresco.

Tuition Fee: €550-€650 for 14-day course (doesn't include accommodation).

Rome University of Fine Arts

About
The Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA) is the only private Art Academy in Rome able to issue educational qualifications equivalent to national university level. RUFA offers 3 months, 6 months, or one-year courses to international students in the following subjects: Painting - Figure Drawing, Photography (basic course) and Reportage (advanced course), Photography and Filming, Lithography, Etching, Engraving, Web Design, Sculpture, Painting on Porcelain, and History of Art. Any students who complete a one year course may participate in a 'graduate' group exhibition and be awarded a certificate with a catalogue featuring photographs of the students and their works.
