Brown University, Department of Visual Art, Providence

About
Founded in 1854, Brown University's Department of Visual Art offers courses in a variety of types of art including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video art and digital media. Students also have the opportunity to take courses at the nearby Rhode Island School of Design. Painting courses relate to traditional and contemporary references. Sculpture includes methods in additives, subtractive, casting, assemblage and materials (metal, wood, plaster and found objects). Printmaking includes tuition in big woodcuts, lithography and silk-screening. At Brown's, undergraduates can take bachelor’s degrees in more than 70 concentrations, ranging from Egyptian art to cognitive neuroscience. Graduates can avail of 70 subjects.

Rhode Island School of Design, Providence

About
Founded in 1877, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) has one of the best reputations as an art school, particularly in the school for industrial designers. The school offers bachelor and master degrees in 19 majors. The most popular degree is the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA). RISD also offers a 5th year baccalaureate degree in Bachelor of Industrial Design, Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Graphic Design. The mission of RISD is to educate its students in the creation and appreciation of works of art, to understand the principles and in doing so become teachers themselves or practicing artists. Attached to the school is the RISD Museum, a world class museum which houses 84,000 objects of fine art and decorative works. Career prospects are considerable. An annual survey carried out by the RISD showed that 96 percent of alumni are employed within 12 months after graduation, and of those, 70 percent are employed in a position related to their major.

Rhode Island College, Arts Department, Providence

About
Rhode Island College was established in 1854 and now serves about 9,000 students a year. The Arts Department at the College offers BA and BFA in Studio Art and Art History. The Foundations Program consists of 6 courses in drawing, 2-D design and 3-D design. Departmental honors programs offer students the chance to carry out independent research, critical analysis or creative project s of their choice. The BA in Studio Art covers drawing, art history (prehistoric art to renaissance and modern; Greek art, Roman Relief Sculpture, Baroque art, as well as American art and architecture, 19th and 20th century art).

Tuition Fee: In State students $2,994 per semester and out of state students $7,940 per semester.
